You might not think that there are legitimate opportunities to make money as a teenager, but you’d be wrong.
Because I have made a list of places to make money online when you are under 18.
And all these sites or apps are legit.
You might be spending most of your time following your friends and other social media influencers around the internet, but you can actually make some cash that won’t come back to haunt you in the future.
Legitimate Places to Make Money Online When You Are Under 18
There are so many different ways that teens can find work online.
Some of it might not seem very legitimate or safe, but there are plenty of reputable sites out there that actually hire teens and take them seriously.
The key to finding a legitimate job is to be sure that you’re looking at opportunities that are actually open to you rather than just digging for as much information as you can. Keep reading to find out where you should look to find work online.
Swagbucks (13+ Years Old)
First on our list is Swagbucks. This site is all about rewarding you for doing things that you already do. You can earn Swagbucks by completing surveys, watching videos, shopping, and browsing through their sponsored advertisements.
Swagbucks then matches your earnings with their “partners” which are retailers who may give you gift cards or cashback.
The average user on this platform should make about $10+ a month, and see it paid in PayPal cash or Amazon vouchers. In my opinion, Amazon vouchers are better for you financially as compared to cash.
Fiverr (13+ Years Old)
This is a huge marketplace for selling different services, and it’s especially popular with teens who love selling their skills. All you need to do is set up a profile, find a niche (category) and you’re good to go. The best part is that Fiverr is open to sellers all over the world.
Fiverr is a freelance website where you can sell your services and skills for $5, at least at the beginning. The more popular the skill you offer, the more competition there will be.
So when you’re starting out, always offer something that is less popular so you can have a better chance of being successful.
Redbubble (16+ Years Old)
Redbubble is a print-on-demand marketplace for designers and artists. It is a place where I am currently selling my designs and I highly recommend you try this platform if you have design skills.
The process is quite simple. You upload your design to Redbubble, put the design on various products, and when somebody purchases a product with your design, Redbubble will print it on the product and ship it to the customer.
You don’t care about customer service, product returns, and such things; all you do is upload designs and earn royalties.
Survey Junkie (16+ Years Old)
Survey Junkie is another great spot to find work when you’re in high school. They partner with different survey sites and research firms to give you opportunities to make money.
All you have to do is sign up for their site and get to work. You’ll find that most of the surveys that you receive are very easy and don’t take very long to complete. You can usually make a few dollars per survey without too much effort.
Slice The Pie (13+ Years Old)
Another one of these types of sites that you can find work with is Slice The Pie. On this website, people aged 13+ are invited to leave reviews of items such as music, fashion, commercials, and clothing, before they’re released.
The concept of paid reviews is not new. Companies have been using them for years to provide feedback on their products. These reviews are then given to the artist/designer of the product so they can take into consideration what was said and improve their product.
What has changed recently is that these companies are now paying reviewers based on the quality of their reviews among other things. The better your review is, the more you can earn.
Etsy (13+ Years Old)
Etsy is a place where you can sell your products. It is an online marketplace where you can sell just about anything, from art, jewelry, and clothing to furniture and home decor.
It is a great place even for teens to sell their items because it’s easy to set up an account, and it has insane traffic of hungry buyers.
The most important thing when selling on Etsy as a teen is to make sure you’re following the rules of the site.
In fact, Etsy requires all account owners to be at least 18 years of age. Individuals under the age of 18 are considered minors on Etsy. Minors under age 13 are not allowed on Etsy.
According to Etsy: “Minors under 18 and at least 13 years of age are permitted to use Etsy’s services only if they have the appropriate permission and direct supervision of their parent or legal guardian who is the owner of the account.”
So, if you are between the ages of 13 and 17, and want to sell on Etsy, you must follow some additional policies that are listed here.
YouTube (13+ Years Old)
YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world and it’s a great place to start earning money. You don’t need to be a professional YouTuber or have a lot of experience with video editing.
It is a great platform for teens to make money. It’s a great way to monetize their creativity and show off their skills.
Anyone over 13 years old can make a YouTube channel and start uploading content onto it. One of the ways that you can make money on YouTube is through ads. When someone watches your video, they may see an advertisement before the video starts playing or at the end of it. You don’t have to be 18 years old either!
However, in order to monetize your passion with ads, you need to have an account on Google AdSense, but you must be 18 years old or older.
So, if you really want to make money on YouTube as a teen, your channel won’t be your own, but you can enlist the help of an adult (typically a parent) who will be in charge of the channel, while you make the content.
This method is legitimate and allowed under YouTube’s terms of service, and many channels have used this technique at the beginning of their journey.
YSense (16+ Years Old)
YSense is a website where people can get paid for completing offers and tasks. Similar to the likes of Swagbucks, YSense is a great place to come and find jobs that are suitable for teens.
As well as getting paid, you can also help advertisers with market research, complete surveys, and view adverts in order to make some extra pocket money.
You can choose to join for a higher membership level for just a few dollars a year. The benefits of upgrading your account include increased chances of earning money and more referral commissions.
Survey Savvy (13+ Years Old)
Survey Savvy is an American-based survey website that is committed to giving you the best and most accurate data possible. They have a variety of surveys available and they offer rewards for members. Survey Savvy is an app that not only offers monetary rewards but also offers points that can be redeemed for prizes and gift cards.
Once you’ve collected at least $1 USD on your account, you can request it by sending a check to the U.S. postal service or wiring it to your bank account.
People are often engaged in sweepstakes or contests that they can enter on Survey Savvy. One recent contest, the “Create a Survey Store jingle,” paid $500 to the winner.
