8 Things to Do Before Starting a New Blog: The Ultimate Checklist

Starting a new blog might be one of the most exciting projects you’ll ever undertake, but it’s also one of the scariest.

After all, you’re stepping out into the unknown. You don’t know what your blog is going to be about, how often you’ll update it, or even what kind of blog it will be. It can be a little nerve-wracking.

That’s why I’ve put together a list of 8 things to do before starting a new blog. This checklist will help you make sure that your new blog is the right one for you.

List Down Your Goals for the Blog

Blogging is a great way to share your thoughts, inspirations, and opinions with the world.

Blogging can help tap into a wide range of interests that you might not have even known about.

It’s all well and good to start a blog, but if you don’t have any goals in mind, you’re probably setting yourself up for failure. You might love writing, but writing for your blog isn’t going to make you happy if you don’t have the goals set in stone beforehand.

Take some time to list down what you want your blog to achieve. If you’re unsure, you can always ask a friend who blogs regularly. They might have some insight as to what you should be blogging about.

Find your niche

Blogging is a form of self-expression that gives bloggers the freedom to share their thoughts and opinions. To express themselves well, bloggers need to find their niche.

Understanding your niche can help you come up with blog topics that interest your audience, choose a blog name, and know what you need to run a successful blog.

Your niche is the main focus of your blog. It determines the kind of blog you will write and will influence your readers’ expectations of your blog.

If you don’t choose the right niche, your blog might as well be nothing more than a pile of bricks. Well. finding the right niche is the most important thing for your blog’s success.

You don’t want to get into competitive niches where your blog doesn’t have a chance to shine. The best thing you can do is to use a technique called niching down.

The term niche down means you are finding low-competitive niches in the main niche you have selected.

Analyze the Competition

Blog writing can be a time-consuming activity that requires a lot of effort to produce. With so much time and effort being put into blogging, it is important to make sure your blog stands out in the crowd. You can do this by analyzing the competition.

Your niche is one thing, but your competition is another. Your competition is the other blogs in your niche. You want to know what the other blogs are like so you can judge your blog against that.

Choose a host

Hosting is one of the most important decisions for a website. It’s important to decide what kind of hosting your website needs before you select your host.

It helps to have a clear vision when it comes to hosting so you can make the best decision possible.

Take your time and do research, because most of us, who own a blog are sticking with a hosting company for years.

Choose a Domain Name

Your domain name is next on our blog checklist. Your domain name is the name people will type into their browser bar to reach your blog. It’s also the name that will show up on search engine results pages (SERPs).

Your domain name is very important because it’s the first thing people will see when they visit your blog.

The times are already gone, when we have had to choose domain names that include the name of the niche we’re in.

At this moment, it’s better to build a brand. So, find a name that sounds cool, and has a brandable potential.

Decide whether you’re going to monetize your blog

Many bloggers decide that they want to monetize their blog before they’ve even started it. You can choose to monetize your blog at any point, but I would recommend waiting until you’ve finished your first post.

If you’re already familiar with the process, you can just jump in and start monetizing. But I advise against this because it’s too early and you’re rushing.

There are many ways to make money from your blog, but for beginners, affiliate marketing and display ads are the best options.

If you want to choose to earn with display ads, you need to have significant traffic to see life-changing income. I’m using Ezoic ads to earn money through this blog, while this platform is open to anyone, even if they’re just starting.

Another good way for beginners is affiliate marketing for platforms like Clickbank, Amazon, or Impact.

It is a method where you are referring a customer to a brand and you are getting a commission for each sale.

When it comes to affiliate marketing, you don’t have to be a business expert to make money. It is something anyone can do as long as they have a website and some time.

Get a Basic SEO Knowledge

Once you’ve decided to monetize your blog, the next thing you should do is gain a basic understanding of SEO.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of making your website rank higher on search engines like Google and Bing.

SEO is a very important process because it allows people to find your website when they are looking for something that you might have. It also allows you to get traffic through search engine results.

The basic process includes making sure your site ranks in the first few search results for relevant keywords.

Plan your blogging routine

If you’re new to blogging, you may not know what to do. That’s why it’s important to have a blogging routine. Your blogging routine can come in many forms, but it all comes down to the same thing – you’ve got to blog regularly.

Google likes fresh content, and writing articles regularly is a critical part of starting a new blog.

However, if you think, writing articles is hard, you should try using some AI writing tools that will help you with writing.

Once you’ve got your blogging routine down, you can start to feel more comfortable with your blog. And once you’re more comfortable, you’ll be able to start implementing more advanced blogging techniques.

Final thoughts

Now that you’ve got everything set up for your blog, there’s just one more thing to do before you start writing your first post.

That’s to write your first post.

Your blog post is the most important thing you’ll do for your blog. It’s the one thing you’ll be judged on, so you want to make sure it’s good. Once you’ve finished your first post, you’re ready to publish it on your blog.

And that’s the end of our blog checklist. From now on, you’ll be following the steps we’ve laid out in this article and it should help you get started on the right foot.
